Yeah, man…this is so true. mmMMmm…cereal. By the way, the right way to put together a bowl of cereal is you put the cereal in FIRST and THEN the milk. ”Milk-first” people are freaks.
I saw this on a re-run of Letterman last night. It was “awkwardly” hilarious. I haven’t seen a good stand-up comedian set in a while. At least not since my golden age of discovering Jim Gaffigan, Mitch Hedberg, Demetri Martin, and The Flight of the Conchords.
I also found this article on how Joe Wong’s appearance on Letterman was four-years in the making. It was refreshingly “humble” and “down to earth” as you get to see a little bit of all the hard work that went behind all this, and as well hear about all the emotions that the guy goes through. It just made me really root for the guy. Good luck Joe!
Oh man, I’ve definitely had days like this [shaking head in shame]. Even while you’re losing it, you’re thinking “Stop! Don’t do it, don’t do it! Put the plastic container of ‘cheeto-like’ snacks down…oh man, there they go…”
“Where’d Pam go?” = LOL.
Thank you Jesus for your grace…”still having fun!”
And he said, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you I will not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” [Luke 22:15-16 ESV]
What really moved me today was Luke 22:15-16 [ESV]. Jesus said he was “earnestly” looking forward to eating that particular Passover with his disciples. Of course, the huge significance of this one was that he was going to institute “the Lord’s Supper” and the new covenant by his impending death and resurrection.
I could just see the human side of Jesus in those words “earnestly desired to eat.” I mean, he really looked forward to it. I think about how he was probably looking past the cross “scorning it’s shame” and thinking ahead about what the cross was going to accomplish. I was listening and reading Ephesians 1 before I started my meditation on The Passion today. So I thought it was all those things in Ephesians 1 that Jesus must have had in mind that made him “excited” and “earnestly desiring” to partake in the communion – even if it did mean that it marked the night and day he was about to suffer, reprehensible, beyond fathoming pain and hurt. The thought of glorifying his father and his own exaltation together with our redemption, justification, regeneration and glorification with him…all that together!…made him “earnestly desire” and look forward to that special, first time communion.
It also began to sink in just how important and meaningful communion is to Jesus. And even right there in what I just wrote down, I could have said, “How important it was to Jesus” but that’s just the thing that struck me, that it is still something so dear to his heart. To me, I could hear a little bit of a bittersweet tone in his words, “I’ve been earnestly desiring to have this communion with you guys. I’ve really been looking forward to it because of what it means that is about to happen. But also, because it’s going to be the first and last time I get to have it with you guys until that day of the completion of all things. I’m going to be waiting and earnestly looking forward to when I can partake in it again together with you.”
As all these thoughts dawned on me, I instinctively felt the need to repent and ask Jesus to forgive me for any time I took communion wrongly or without complete reverence. To forgive me for any time I saw communion as just a symbolic tradition. It’s more than that. When I see how important and meaningful it is to Jesus, I realize it’s way more than that. It is symbolic, for sure, but it’s beyond that to the point that it is inextricably related and connected to the very fabric of the events of the Passion that Jesus “earnestly desired” to take it with his disciples. As well, to this very day, as we speak, in heaven, right now!…he is in great anticipation for that coming day when he will be able to partake of it with all of us, his sons and daughters – at the end of all things in this age and at the beginning of the new, glorious age to come where we shall be in true, perfect communion with him forever and ever. Amen.
What the…seriously? I ran across an article that says Obama is going to issue a National Emissions Standard that will require ALL cars to get 42 mpg by 2016.
Crazy!
Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
My wallet says “YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAHH!! Whoo-hoo!” And does a few cart-wheels. But still I can’t help but wonder if I’m jump the gun a bit. I’m wondering if there are any drawbacks to this that I’m not seeing? Hmm…
Well, hopefully it will be a good thing for everybody!
Set your heart, mind, soul and strength to love God more than anything and anyone else in this world and to live a life worthy of the great sacrifice and the great gift of life he has given to us.
And you can! For His lavish grace is His divine power at work in you, and that power is like the same power which He exerted and raised Christ from the dead.
Praise God for such an incredible reason to be joyful always and to rest in his exceeding peace.
Project Gutenberg is the first and largest single collection of free electronic books, or eBooks. Their mission is “to encourage the creation and distribution of eBooks.” [taken from the "About Gutenberg" page].
Oh man! This is great for two reasons:
1. I’ve been wanting to read literary “classics.” Stuff like “War and Peace”, “A Tale of Two Cities”, “The Three Musketeers” and so on. While I was in Kansas City, some friends [Nathan & Amy] had some great classics that seemed really well made [good binding, good paper, etc.] but were pretty cheap. They were published by Barnes & Noble. But, alas, even “cheap” is something I can’t afford right now.
2. I’ve really been getting into downloading, saving, reading & studying things in Adobe PDF format. It’s awesome. You can do word searches which is awesome for me because as much as I highlight stuff in books as I read them, wouldn’t you know it? The ONE quote or fact that I can vaguely remember and that I need to look up just happens to be the ONE quote I didn’t highlight. Freak. Anyways, that reminds me that you can also highlight and underline things in PDF as well!
This has become such a phenomena for me because I never knew I could save web pages into PDF! This helps a lot in studying. It gives you off-line access to resources you find on the web and like I said gives you some handy tools to make life a little easier. [I'll post another entry on a little "how to save webpages to PDF file" for those of you who might be interested!]
So now with gutenberg.org, I’ve found a website that actually provides classic books in PDF for free! Well, now, it’s not the same as reading from an actual book. But still, can’t argue with FREE yo. And not all the eBooks are in PDF format. But, you can easily download the “txt” file and then convert that to PDF.
I guess this will be as close as I get to owning a Kindle…for now! muhaha.
